Frequently Asked Questions
What experiences does The Lost Impressionist offer?
We offer two distinct ways to experience Melbourne's rich artistic and cultural heritage.
Scheduled Small Group Tours are ideal for individuals, couples and small groups wishing to join one of our published walking experiences.
Private Art Concierge Experiences are individually curated and tailored to your interests, offering exclusive access, personalised itineraries and premium cultural experiences.
What is the difference between a scheduled tour and a private experience?
Our scheduled tours follow a published itinerary on selected dates and are shared with other guests.
Our private experiences are completely personalised and may include private curator experiences, gallery appointments, behind-the-scenes access, collector guidance and bespoke itineraries designed exclusively for you.
Do I need to know anything about art?
Not at all.
Our experiences are designed for everyone, from first-time visitors to experienced collectors.
Whether you simply enjoy beautiful stories or wish to deepen your understanding of Australian art, your guide will ensure the experience is engaging, informative and enjoyable.
Are your experiences suitable for serious art collectors?
Yes.
Many of our private experiences are designed specifically for guests interested in collecting Australian art.
Should you wish, your Art Concierge can introduce you to respected galleries, artists and curators while providing independent guidance throughout the experience.
There is never any obligation to purchase artwork.
Can I purchase artwork during my experience?
Certainly.
Artwork purchases are made directly with the gallery or artist and be delivered internationally.
The Lost Impressionist can facilitate introductions and provide independent guidance, allowing you to enjoy the experience without pressure.
Can private experiences be customised?
Absolutely.
Every private experience is individually designed around your interests.
Whether you would like to explore contemporary Aboriginal art, Australian Impressionism, sculpture, photography, hidden galleries or Melbourne's cultural history, your itinerary can be tailored accordingly.
How much walking is involved?
Most experiences involve between two and three kilometres of leisurely walking throughout Melbourne.
Regular opportunities are provided to sit, enjoy refreshments and spend time within galleries.
Please contact us before booking if you have any mobility requirements.
What should I wear?
Comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
Melbourne's weather can change quickly, so we suggest dressing in layers and bringing an umbrella if rain is forecast.
Are refreshments included?
This depends on the experience you choose.
Some private experiences include tea, coffee, sparkling wine or canapés as outlined in your personalised itinerary.
Scheduled tours include only those refreshments specifically listed in the tour description.
Is lunch included?
Unless specifically stated, meals are not included.
For private experiences, we are delighted to recommend and reserve one of Melbourne's excellent cafés or restaurants to suit your preferences.
Where do we meet?
Meeting details are provided in your confirmation email.
Many private experiences begin at your Melbourne hotel, while scheduled tours meet at the published meeting location shown on the individual tour page.
What happens if it rains?
Our experiences generally operate in most weather conditions.
As many venues are indoors, light rain rarely affects the day.
Should severe weather make it unsafe to proceed, we will contact you to discuss alternative arrangements.
What is your cancellation policy?
For scheduled small group tours, please refer to the cancellation policy shown on the individual tour page.
For private experiences, cancellations made more than seven days before the experience may be eligible for a refund less any non-refundable supplier costs already incurred.
Private experiences cancelled within seven days of the scheduled date are non-refundable.
Please refer to our full Booking Terms & Conditions for complete details.
Can you create experiences for private groups or corporate events?
Yes.
We regularly design bespoke experiences for private groups, families, corporate clients, schools and special interest organisations.
If you have a particular interest or occasion in mind, we would be delighted to create a personalised itinerary.
Are children welcome?
Children over 16 are welcome on selected experiences when accompanied by a responsible adult.
Please contact us before booking so that we can recommend the most suitable experience for your family.
How far in advance should I book?
Scheduled tours can often be booked online, subject to availability.
Private experiences should ideally be booked as early as possible to allow sufficient time to secure museum experiences, gallery appointments and other exclusive arrangements.
